Clean Cars Campaign Using its authority under the Clean Air Act, California has set tougher motor vehicle standards for global warming emissions and other motor vehicle tailpipe emissions. The standards require carmakers to reduce global warming emissions from new passenger cars and light trucks beginning in 2009. Carmakers have eight years to comply with the new standards, which will cut emissions of global warming pollutants by approximately 30 percent once they are fully phased in by 2016, while actually saving consumers money over the life of the vehicle. Twelve other states have adopted these better-than-federal motor vehicle standards in order to protect their citizens from dirty air and global warming. Several other states are considering adopting California standards.

What you can do as an individual to help the electric and hybrid vehicle industry:
1. Get informed.
Learn about what electric vehicles are available now, and what is coming to market.
Join an EV organization that interests you. There are many to choose from.
Find out what challenges and issues, both economic and political are facing the EV industry.
2. Talk to your friends and family about EV's.
Let people know EV's are available now, and are already a viable transportation option.
3. Take action.
Contact your local transportation district and ask them to buy electric, hybrid and fuel cell powered buses.
There are over a dozen electric, hybrid, and fuel cell bus manufacturers listed here on EVtransPortal.org.
Ask your city council to eliminate meter fees for EV's. Ask your state and federal representatives to introduce legislation eliminating sales taxes on the purchase of EV's.
Ask those same representatives to introduce legislation creating tax incentives for purchasing electric vehicles. Ask your local electric utility company to get involved in helping to promote the purchase and use of electric vehicles, (they already have an incentive to help).
There's strength in numbers. Form a group of volunteers in your area to work together to promote EV's and have lots of fun at the same time. Support EV companies by buying and using their products to meet your transportation needs.
4. Support EVtransPortal.org's ongoing efforts to conduct market research and provide advanced transport information services.
5. Vote with your pocketbook. Support EV companies by buying their products and taking into account the total lifetime costs, and environmental impact of operating a vehicle when considering a purchase.
